Bert
Hellinger Intensive starts November 16 -- Register now!
The Compass
We are closing in on November 16, 2008,
when Bert Hellinger will join us in Louisville, Kentucky, to share
his teaching on what he calls the spirit-mind. For some who have
followed his work from the earlier Family Constellations, this part
of his journey may give pause. When a discovery or, more accurately,
a synthesis of the enduring aspects of many different lenses, takes
root in a strong and stable way, perhaps it is difficult, or downright
wrong, to move from that place. What Bert Hellinger may call “evolution,”
for some may feel like something going awry. Still others, who are
equally familiar with the earlier understandings, find this part
of the journey comfortable, necessary even, as layer opens to layer
opens to layer, until everything is encompassed.
But there is room for all – those who take one path, or the
other, or some as yet unidentified one, each with a compass in his
or her own pocket, a deep sense of direction that is informed and
molded out of seen and unseen interactions, ancient and close by,
and then passed down from generation to generation.
If there is not room, then we should not be fooled: we are living
in the old familiar -- this or that exclusive club, knock-knock,
secret password, you belong, I do not, I am in, you are out.
And yes, of course, this is a stance as well, to stay distant from
the fray, from the din of angry, thoughtful, disappointed, legitimate,
unfair, brilliant, and challenging words. It feels to me that it
is a conversation taking place at a different table. I am in the
same room, and I can see how excited the people at the other table
are and that catches my interest, but I am embarrassed to hear what’s
being said because it is not my business. They are finding their
way. I am finding my own. I slide my thumb across the well-worn
back of my personal compass when their discussion gets loud or someone
throws me a question for which I have no answer.
For me, it is simply too late to put aside what I have gotten,
have experienced first-hand – too late to trade in the beautiful
glistening still-unfolding gift for stories that have not been verified
by my own compass. In November of 2008, I will welcome my dear teacher
and friend, Bert Hellinger, to Louisville, Kentucky, to share this
part of his journey. He will have his compass firmly in hand; I
too will have mine.
