Why Family Constellations?
If you are reading this, I know something about you, something important: in the midst of feelings of hopelessness, there is a glimmer of hope.
This is something to build on.
Often, our past has taught us harsh lessons, and we as students of perception have taken in what we have learned, constricting our lives, contracting our potential, and staying close to our pain.
At the same time, these responses seem out of sync with what we see around us – people being happy, finding fulfillment and joy in ordinary things. And, most essential, they are out of sync with some part of us, even if it is small, that suspects that there is another way, other ways. Some spend a life time caught in the struggle between these two types of knowledge. Some do not.
The family constellation work pioneered by Bert Hellinger, and as it has evolved in my experience, reveals the parallel truths of the past, sometimes looking deep into it, to reveal the resources that allowed, indeed, compelled life to move forward to this moment in time as you read along with me, to you who embody despair perhaps, but who also carry those shining glimmers of hope.
Together, we look to those who came before us to understand better the entanglements that may have snagged us in their hidden momentum, to the events out of which those entanglements were born, and to the ways in which love has been blocked along the way. Once these are more clearly in focus, the parallel truths of the system can also take shape: the resilience, the power, the love.
The parallel truth? Essential life force far outweighs difficult details. With this understanding, with this experience, we can move out of the rigid alignment with the vulnerabilities of the family system into the other sphere; the truth that gives wings to our hope, now and for the future.
